HCL2025 Researcher Profile: Dr. Thorsten Zenz, Universitätsspital Zürich
The HCL2025 research initiative is a collaboration of the Hairy Cell Leukemia Foundation and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to identify new and better therapies for hairy cell leukemia and improve patient outcomes. Our HCL2025 Profile Series is highlighting the outstanding investigators whose discoveries will pave the way for new treatment options in HCL.
For this entry, we're highlighting Dr. Thorsten Zenz from the Universitätsspital Zürich, where he's currently the senior physician in charge of the lymphoma program in the Department of Medical Oncology and Hematology. His institution is also an HCL Center of Excellence.
Training in Freiburg, London, Philadelphia, and Ulm, Dr. Zenz moved to the University Hospital, German Cancer Research Center, and National Center for Tumor Diseases in Heidelberg where his focus in HCL began. His work in Lymphoma and Leukemia has netted Dr. Zenz numerous accolades, including the Franziska Kolb Prize (Leukemia Research), the Hans‐Jochen‐Illiger Prize (Cancer Research), and the Paul‐Martini Prize (Clinical Pharmacology).
Dr. Zenz and his team have made USZ one of Europe's leading institutions in regards to HCl research, while also leading as a wider cancer center in diagnosis and treatment.
